Summary
This policy explains how data provided on the Learning Management System (LMS) is used, stored and managed.
Full policy
E-LEARN PLATFORM PRIVACY POLICY
The E-Learn Platform is the Lagos Business School’s Learning Management System (LMS) deployed to accommodate and handle the online teaching and learning activities of the institution’s MBA programmes, Executive Education programmes and open seminars.
Access to the platform
Since the platform is complementary to the face-to-face delivery of programs, the program managers in charge of a given programme request users’ access to the platform. Upon request, required information of participants is sent to the LMS administrator of the platform for user account creation.
What data is collected for user account creation?
The following data is required for user account creation:
- First name
- Last name
- Email address
Users’ profiles on LMS
A user is able to update their profile with other personal details. These are:
- City/town
- Country
- Description (About you)
- Profile picture
- Additional names
- Personal interests
These details are not required for account creation but may help facilitate a user’s interactivity on the platform. For example, a user’s profile picture makes it easy for other users to identify and interact with them on the platform.
Information contained in a profile are visible to other users on the E-Learn platform. When updating profiles with the above listed information, users are advised to only provide information that they want to share with other users on the platform.
Access to courses
Access to courses are granted to users in line with their chosen programme. Programme managers are responsible for granting user access to courses enlisted in the curriculum for the programme in which the manage. Students may not share personal or learning activities data collected from the platform with individuals outside Lagos Business School except with express permission from the institution.
Duration of user access to courses
A user’s enrolment and access in a course remains active throughout the duration of their chosen programme. This also includes courses offered in the past, however these courses are not listed among the courses a user is currently offering. The E-Learn Platform uses a course end date to determine if/when a course has ended and stores these courses in a separate block on a user’s dashboard.
Faculty and Administrative Access to User Data
Faculty members have access ONLY to courses they teach on the system. This access includes user information and activities in the course environment including grades, if available. For administrative purposes, the LMS Administrator and other designated personnel in the Instructional Technology and Design unit also have access to student’s records on the platform.
Access to courses after a programme ends
Users are able to access the E-Learn platform after the end of a programme, however the duration of access is dependent on the type of programme. The following explains the duration of access for each programme:
-
MBA Programmes (Full time MBA, EMBA, MEMBA, PMBA) – 1 year after programme ends
-
Executive Education (AMP, MAP, SMP, OMP, AgMP) – 6 months after programme ends
-
Custom programmes – 6 months after programme ends
-
Open seminars – 3 months after programme ends
User records in courses
User records include submissions made to courses during their programmes. These are discussion posts, quiz submissions, feedback forms and assignment submissions.
These records remain on the E-Learn platform for the period of a student’s programme and are accessible to students within the given period after the end of a programme. Records are later archived in an external system for future reference.
